Windsor-Essex sees just 21 new COVID-19 cases

COVID-19 daily case counts in Windsor-Essex appear to be continuing to trend downward.

The Windsor-Essex County Health unit reported 21 new cases on Sunday.

According to the local health unit, 14 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, five are community-acquired and two cases are still under investigation.

The overall case count in Windsor-Essex is now at 16,533. As of Sunday, there are 323 active cases and 15 hospitalizations. To date, 1,765 preliminary or confirmed variant of concern cases have been identified in the region.

There were 20 more recoveries reported over the past 24 hours, bringing the number of resolved cases up to 15,875.

There was no changes to local outbreaks from Saturday to Sunday, with eight ongoing workplace outbreaks and one community outbreak at the Southwest Detention Centre.

Meanwhile, there were also no new deaths reported on Sunday, with the death toll in the region remaining at 426.

Across Ontario, provincial health officials reported 1,033 new cases on Sunday, 18 more deaths and 2,067 additional recoveries. Currently, there are 749 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in the province. As of Saturday night, the province had administered 8.9 million doses of the vaccine.
