Humane Society cupboards are bare

The Windsor Essex County Humane Society is holding a pet food drive this weekend.

Executive Director Melanie Coulter said the pantry shelves at the shelter are almost bare.

“Pets are part of our families and bring so much to our lives; this has never been more evident than throughout this pandemic. When pets already have a home where they are loved, the Humane Society’s pet food bank can help to keep families and pets together,” said Coulter.

Some Pet Valu stories in Windsor are helping with the food drive. It’s offering a 10 per cent discount on Performatrin brand food purchased to donate to the humane society. All purchases can be made over the phone.

"I heard from Melanie that the food bank was running low and wanted to help. Anyone who purchases wet or dry Performatrin dog or cat food this weekend for the food bank will receive a 10% discount and my 3 stores will be donating $500 worth of food as well,” said Lauren Edwards, franchise owner.

Discounted purchases can be made by calling any of the below Pet Valu locations in Windsor:

· Pet Valu - 8420 Wyandotte St E– 519-944-7813

· Pet Valu Westminster - 5060 Tecumseh Rd E – 519-945-1329

· Pet Valu - 13596 Tecumseh Rd, Tecumseh -519-735-0634

The food drive runs until Sunday, May 30, 2021.
