What's open and closed Victoria Day in Windsor-Essex?

With the region still in a pandemic, the unofficial start of the summer holiday season will look different again.

Victoria Day is a statutory holiday in Canada, the only British Commonwealth country with a holiday honouring the monarch. The stay-at-home order has resulted in closures and reduced hours across Windsor-Essex, but even so, many of these places will be closed completely Monday.

All federal, provincial, and municipal offices and town halls are closed Monday, even those offering electronic services. There will be no Canada Post delivery.

Service Ontario offices will be closed, though some transactions, like licence plate and driver licence renewals, can be done online.

Selected outlets of The Beer Store will be open Victoria Day. LCBO outlets are typically closed on Mondays.

All branches of the Windsor Public Library and Essex County Library are closed Monday.

Windsor Regional Hospital's COVID-19 assessment centres are open Victoria Day. The Ouellette Campus is open by appointment 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the Met Campus is open by appointment 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Windsor-Essex's major shopping malls are open for essential services and curbside pickup only. Devonshire Mall is open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Tecumseh Mall is open 12 noon to 5 p.m., and Windsor Crossing outlet mall in LaSalle is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

There will be no garbage or recycling pickup in Windsor or Essex County. That will be delayed by a day in Windsor, and residents should check their Waste Collection Calendar for the next collection day. Commercial garbage collection will take place as normal.

The 311 call centre will close Monday and reopen on Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The 211 call centre will remain open 24 hours as usual.

All City of Windsor arenas, community centres, and pools are closed Monday, including virtual programs. Adventure Bay Family Water Park is closed until further notice due to COVID-19 control protocols.

The Francois Baby House and Chimczuk Museum in Windsor are closed until further notice.

The H-4 day program at Windsor Water World is open Victoria Day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for single men and women dealing with homelessness.

There will be no parking enforcement on Windsor streets Monday, and metered parking will be free. Paid garages and lots will take payment as usual. Ticket payments can still be made online.

Transit Windsor buses will run on the Sunday-holiday schedule on Victoria Day. The Customer Service Office on Chatham Street West will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., but the sales office on North Service Road East is closed.
