Tecumseh removes basketball nets at Century Park
The town of Tecumseh has removed all basketball nets and backboards at Century Park after continued use by the public despite the current COVID-19 restrictions.
According to officials with the municipality, large groups of young adults have been seen gathering at the basketball courts over the past week.
Staff with the municipality says they approached the large group several times and asked them to disperse, but were ignored.
“The users were disrespectful to our staff and the gatherings at the park continued, requiring the town to involve by-law enforcement and the OPP,” a statement from the municipality read. “The town had no choice but to remove the nets due to continued non-compliance.”
Under the current lockdown restrictions, all outdoor recreational activities are prohibited until at least June 2. The town says it will replace the nets once the province lifts the restrictions.
