Lakeshore has announced plans to close West Beach to the public due to increasing numbers of groups gathering.

Effective 12:01 a.m. Sunday, the beach will be closed and barricaded to restrict access until further notice.

The municipality says residents are allowed to use the jetty for walkthrough access only, but must maintain a physical distance of two metres from others who are also using the amenity.

A&J’s Snack Shack will remain open for take-out only, but dining on the premises is prohibited.

According to a release from Lakeshore, enforcement officers will be on duty patrolling the area.
