Speeders, stunt drivers targeted by Windsor police

Windsor police issued dozens of traffic citations this week, for those treating roadways as their racetrack.

Officers in the Traffic Enforcement Unit were out on Tuesday watching for speed demons, which was the police's target of concern. A total of 85 tickets were issued throughout the day.

While doing enforcement along Dougall Avenue near Roseland Golf and Curling Club in the morning, 39 tickets were issued, 30 of them were for speeding.

The remaining 46 tickets came from enforcement in areas throughout the city. One notable citation was on the E.C. Row Expressway, where a driver was clocked going 179 kilometres per hour in a 100 kilometre per hour zone.

Constable Talya Natyshak said the number of tickets issued for speeding is unacceptable, and excessive speed can get somebody killed.

"As a community, we need to do better. Road safety is everyone's responsibility and obeying traffic laws is imperative to keep our roadways and communities safe," said Natyshak. "Travelling above posted speed limits significantly increases the risk of serious injury or death during a collision."

Police also recovered a stolen vehicle during the enforcement blitz.
