Health unit issues questionnaire for residents vaccinated outside of Ontario

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit is looking for information from people who got a COVID-19 vaccine outside of the province to get a better idea of the coverage rate in the community.

It’s estimated about 56 per cent of adults in Windsor-Essex have been recieved at least one dose of the vaccine. But the coverage rate could actually be quite a bit higher because many local residents have received their shots across the border through their employer. The provincial registration system only records those who received the vaccine locally and not those received in a different province or country.

To get a better idea of the actual coverage rate in the community, the Windsor Essex County Health Unit is asking those residents who received a vaccine outside of the province to fill out a short online survey.

The survey is completely voluntary and is not a vaccine registry. It does not collect any personal data.

If an individual received the first dose of the vaccine outside of the country and is waiting for their second dose, they should call the health unit to make an appointment if their first dose was more than 16 weeks ago.

The health unit also announced on Friday that healthcare workers in the highest risk category can book appointments for their second vaccine doses. They can do so by calling the health unit call centre, 226-773-2200.

The health unit will start to contact residents 80 and older who received their first dose within two to three weeks of their next appointment time. Those calls will be starting shortly with second appointments anticipated for the end of June. Some residents who had their first shots at the St. Clair College Sportsplex may already have appointments for their second dose.
