Windsor-Essex sees 47 new COVID-19 cases

Health officials in Windsor-Essex reported an increase of 47 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday.

According to the local health unit, 28 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases and seven are community-acquired. The remaining 12 cases are still under investigation.

The overall case count in Windsor-Essex is now at 15,799. As of Sunday, there are 362 active cases, 188 of which are variants of concern cases, and 14 hospitalizations.

There were also 33 more recoveries reported over the past 24 hours, bringing the number of resolved cases up to 15,021.

There were no changes to the number of local outbreaks with eight workplace outbreaks remaining and one community outbreak.

Meanwhile, there were no new deaths reported on Sunday, with the death toll in the region remaining at 416.

As of Sunday, 162,400 residents have received at least one dose of a vaccine.

On Saturday afternoon, Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens received his first COVID-19 shot.

Across Ontario, provincial health officials reported 3,216 new cases on Sunday, 47 more deaths and 3,653 additional recoveries. Currently, there are 1,640 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in the province. As of Saturday night, the province had administered over 6.1-million doses of the vaccine.
