Ford Canada hiring in Windsor

If you are looking for work, Ford Canada is hiring in Windsor for the first time in two decades.

Unifor Local 200 President John D'Agnolo said the company is looking for 80 new workers to start.

"We negotiated in the last set of bargaining buy-out packages for our members who wanted to retire, and we have approximately 80 members that have said yes," he said. "So, we will be replacing those jobs."

In addition, the company is creating a bank of applicants to fill positions expected to open later this year and next when the third shift comes online at the Windsor Annex Plant.

Ford awarded production of the new 6X engine to the Windsor plant in contract talks last September.

The jobs are on the line and start at $23.67 an hour with benefits. D'Agnolo said they also come with stability.

"I would say approximately 80 per cent of the membership will be able to retire by 2024, 2025, 2026," he explained. "If you get hired in this round, I can see you being there for a long time."

The last time the company put out the call for applicants was in 2000.

Those interested in applying can do so online at Ford Canada's website. The deadline for applications is May 16.

Ford Canada employs 1,200 workers in Windsor.
