Crews respond to pair of fires, police investigating one as arson

Windsor fire crews were kept busy overnight with two blazes, including one that investigators say was intentionally set.

Around 8:30 p.m. Friday, firefighters were called to a house fire on University Avenue East between Louis Avenue and Marentette Avenue.

A Windsor Fire investigator attended the scene and determined that the fire was accidental and caused by "careless disposal of smoking material." The blaze started in a recycle box and spread to the house, causing around $90,000 in damage.

No injuries were reported, however, one person was displaced as a result.

Later in the night in east Windsor, crews responded to another fire at a house on Rockland Street, off of Radcliff Avenue.

According to Windsor Fire, the blaze started in the backyard. As a result, a hot tub and deck were fully engulfed in flames. Damage is pegged at $150,000.

The fire was determined to be intentionally set and Windsor Police are continuing with an arson investigation.
