UPDATE: Man charged in child exploitation investigation

A 36-year-old Windsor man is facing charges after allegedly communicating with a minor for the purpose of committing a sexually related offence.

Through an investigation, the Windsor Police Service says officers learned a male suspect agreed to meet a person identified to the suspect as a person under the age of 16 years old.

It was also reported the suspect had sent a sexually explicit image during the conversations between the suspect and the victim.

Windsor Police arrested Ryan Turgeon on Tuesday in relation to the investigation. He is charged with communicating with a person believed to be under the age of sixteen years for the purpose of facilitating the commission of a sexual assault and distributing sexually explicit material to a person believed to be under the age of 16 years.

The charges have not been proven in court.

According to the Windsor Police Service, "the offender was in a position of trust and authority, in relation to persons under the age of 18 years, within the community at the time of the offences."

The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board confirmed to Blackburn News Wednesday evening that Turgeon was employed with the board as a teacher.

"[Turgeon] is no longer in a classroom environment and will not be in front of students until the matter is resolved," said board spokesman Stephen Fields. "The teacher has been suspended from the Board pending further investigation and the matter is now in the hands of the Windsor Police Service and the Crown Attorney’s Office."
