The Town of Tecumseh is reconsidering its stance on retail cannabis facilities.
In 2018 when cannabis first became legal for sale in Canada, the town opted to prohibit retail cannabis stores.
“When we made the decision to opt-out of hosting retail cannabis facilities, it was still early and there were many unknowns,” said Tecumseh Mayor Gary McNamara. “Over the last two years we have seen how the industry has operated and my colleagues and I agreed to seek out public comment and information from administration and possibly reconsider allowing these businesses in Town.”
Now, the town is launching a public survey to ask residents their views on permitting cannabis stores in Tecumseh. The survey is available to residents for the next month.
During that time, the town administration will also be collecting data on retail cannabis stores in other jurisdictions.
The data and survey results will be presented during a council meeting in June. Town councillors will make a decision on whether to allow cannabis retail stores at that council meeting.
