Windsor Assembly shutdown extended by one week

A shutdown at Stellantis' Windsor Assembly Plant will continue a little longer.

Unifor Local 444, which represents plant employees, reported on its Twitter account Friday afternoon that the automaker has extended the shutdown at the plant by one week, with a tentative resumption date of Monday, May 10.

The reason for the extended shutdown was not given, but the plant has been idled since the end of March because of a worldwide microchip shortage that has disrupted auto production.

This shutdown is the second at the plant this year. The first was in early February for three weeks.

According to Lou Ann Gosselin, head of communications for Stellantis Canada, no manufacturing decisions beyond April have been approved at this time.
