WECHU opens vaccine appointments for pregnant people and childcare workers

People who are pregnant and workers in licensed childcare settings can now book an appointment to get a COVID-19 vaccine in Windsor-Essex.

Starting Friday, pregnant people will be allowed to register under the high-risk category as approved by the provincial government.

According to emerging data, pregnant people, particularly those in the third trimester, are at a higher risk of severe illness. They are advised to discuss getting the vaccine with their health care provider before making an appointment.

Individuals working in childcare settings in Windsor-Essex will also be eligible for vaccines through the health unit’s website starting Friday. This includes all licensed child care employees, and students on educational placement who work directly with children in the childcare settings. Licensed home child care providers will also be able to register for a vaccine.

When these individuals go for their vaccine appointments they will be required to show proof of an ID badge to show that they work for a licenced child care provider.

As of Friday morning, 30 per cent of the population in Windsor-Essex had received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
