Despite a stay-at-home order, two schools in the local English Catholic school board have confirmed COVID-19 cases.
An outbreak was declared at one of those schools.
The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board reported a small cohort of students being dismissed from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Elementary School in Windsor after a confirmed case there.
A second case among staff was confirmed at Holy Names High School, making the outbreak declaration necessary.
"We learned of the second confirmed case today. A small group of students was dismissed when we learned of the first case this week, and no additional students need to be dismissed. At this time, all other students and staff are deemed low-risk," said board spokesman Stephen Fields. "Although most students are currently not attending school in person, we still felt it was important to keep the school community informed."
According to the WECDSB website, there are currently six active cases of COVID-19 among its buildings. Four of the cases involved staff members, the other two students.
Parents of students at both schools have received a voicemail explaining the situation. Those with students identified as close contacts are asked to monitor their kids for symptoms, and if they feel ill, to contact their health care provider for further instructions.
