Oven mitts recalled due to burn risk

A line of oven mitts has been called back due to concerns over burns and fires starting.

Health Canada issued on Tuesday a recall of Proctor Silex Pantone oven mitts. With certain varieties of these mitts, melting is possible when in contact with high heat. This may result in people getting burned, or starting a fire.

The affected UPCs for the mitts in question are as follows.

Oven Mitt Pair (grey) 65589742581 Oven Mitt Pair (navy) 65589742598 Oven Mitt Pair (red) 65589742604 Oven Mitt Pair (taupe) 65589744905 The mitts were sold through Giant Tiger stores between August 2020 and March 2021. The retailer reported selling a total of 12,587 units.

Health Canada said there were at least three instances of the mitts melting or catching fire. No injuries were reported.

If you own the oven mitts covered by the recall, Health Canada suggests you stop using them immediately and return them to Giant Tiger for a refund.
