WECHU noticing more workplace infections

According to the Windsor Essex County Health Unit, the number of COVID-19 cases connected to workplaces in Windsor-Essex is increasing.

"It is important for the businesses that are still open and have staff on-site to follow the strict public health measures. All employers should look for ways to allow their workers to work remotely to prevent any transmission at the workplace. Workplaces should review their COVID-19 plan and update it with the most recent guidelines to keep their workplaces safe,” said Medical Officer of Health Dr. Wajid Ahmed.

Right now, there are seven active workplace outbreaks in Windsor-Essex. There are two agricultural facilities, three health care and social assistance facilities, and two manufacturing facilities currently experiencing outbreaks of the virus.

The health unit reported 72 new cases of COVID-19 in the region on Wednesday. Among the new cases, 29 are related to previously confirmed infections, five are community-acquired, and three are outbreak-related. The remaining cases are still under investigation by case and contact management staff.

There are currently 486 active cases in the community. The health unit indicates 29 per cent of them involve variants of concern.

Local hospitals are treating 27 patients who have tested positive for COVID-19.

To date, 127,056 people in Windsor-Essex have received at least one dose of a vaccine.
