WRH reinstates no visitor policy

The Windsor Regional Hospital says it will be restricting visitors at both campuses starting Saturday.

Hospital officials say the decision follows Premier Doug Ford's announcement of tighter COVID-19 restrictions and an increase in hospitalizations.

"This difficult decision was made as a precaution to keep patients, families and our health care teams safe as transmission rates rise and our hospital accepts transfers of COVID-19 patients from the Greater Toronto Area where cases are soaring," A release from the WRH read.

"High patient volumes and reduced critical care bed capacity throughout Ontario is challenging the entire health care system and we must do what we can to limit the opportunity for further spread of the COVID-19 virus."

Some exceptions to the no visitors policy are in place for palliative patients.

As of Friday, the hospital is treating 21 in-patients with COVID-19, the most the hospital has treated since mid-March. Six of the patients are in the ICU.

More information on visitation changes can be found on the hospital's website.
