Watershed statement issued by ERCA

With rain in the forecast, the Essex Region Conservation Authority is warning about possible standing water.

ERCA has issued a weather conditions statement for Thursday after Environment Canada's forecast called for showers and possible thunderstorms bringing up to 30 millimetres of rain over an eight-hour period.

"There is a concern for the accumulation of standing water in low lying areas and floodplains, specifically across the western municipalities of Essex County, such as Amherstburg, Essex, LaSalle, Windsor, and Tecumseh," said ERCA Watershed Management Director James Bryant.

The amount of rain in the forecast is below ERCA's flood watch criteria, but due to the rainfall potential and the still-elevated lake water levels, the watershed statement was issued.

People are asked to stay out of areas where flooding may occur, as well as places that are susceptible to shoreline erosion.

The statement is in effect until 4 p.m. Friday.
