WECHU reports two additional COVID-19 related deaths

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported two more COVID-19 related deaths on Wednesday.

A man in his 80s and a man in his 90s passed away after contracting the virus. There have now been 405 deaths in the region connected to COVID-19.

The health unit also confirmed 41 new infections. Among them, 14 are close contacts of previously confirmed cases, two are community-acquired, one is outbreak-related, and 24 are still under investigation.

There are currently 404 active cases in the community. Local hospitals are treating 19 patients for the virus, and five of those are in the intensive care unit.

Between March 30 and April 5, 18.9 per cent of all confirmed cases were identified as variants of concern. There have been 160 confirmed variant cases so far.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 14,195 people who tested positive for the virus, 13,386 are now recovered.
