Trans Wellness Ontario celebrates the expansion of services

The organization W.E. Trans Support has rebranded itself to Trans Wellness Ontario.

Formally known as Windsor-Essex Transgender and Allied Support, the new name represents the expansion of services the group offers throughout the province.

"We are supporting folks outside of Windsor-Essex and we want them to feel represented and welcome at our agency," said Executive Director Alexander Reid. "Secondly, we wanted to reflect holistic wellness in our title. Having wellness in the title for us represents that we are providing the types of supports that all encompass someone's wellness."

All of the services offered through Trans Wellness Ontario are now available online. The organization focuses on emotional support, peer support, addiction, housing, and legal name change services. It also has a food bank and clothing bank available for its users.

"We do allow folks who don't have internet or phone access to come into the centre to be in a separate room from their service provider but otherwise everything is available online," said Reid.

After the organization was the target of hate crimes over the last couple of months, many community organizations have come forward to support them. The building now has a state-of-the-art security system that was donated to them by Security One. There were also some renovations completed to enhance safety features in the building for staff and patrons.
