Demolition starts on Studio 4

It has been the first landmark coming into Canada over the Ambassador Bridge for decades, but soon it will be no more.

Demolition starts Thursday on Studio 4, one of Windsor's infamous adult entertainment lounges.

"It's an iconic building," said Jeff Gagnon of Gagnon Demolition. It will tear down the building at the corner of Huron Church Road and Tecumseh Road West. "It's interesting from that perspective to tear down a building that so many people frequented."

Over the years, the club's sign, a woman in a small bikini, has drawn the ire of residents who felt it sent visitors the wrong message about Windsor. However, Gagnon told BlackburnNews.com much of the memorabilia will be put up for sale on eBay.

"There will be a few signs that we've salvaged from the building," he said. "The corner sign -- as well as the XXtasy Lounge sign. There's an Adonis sign."

At least half of the proceeds will go to charity, said Gagnon.

He said the work would start around 10 a.m. Thursday. The work should stretch into next week.
