Lakeshore council ratifies contract with IBEW

The Municipality of Lakeshore has approved a contract with the union representing its outdoor staff.

Lakeshore Council signed off on the collective bargaining agreement with the union, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 636. The municipality's outdoor operational staff, water and wastewater operators, and Class B facility attendants at Atlas Tube Centre are represented by the union.

"Lakeshore is pleased to announce this agreement will result in increased safety for residents through the introduction of a second shift during the winter season," said Mayor Tom Bain in a media release.

The three-year agreement includes a raise each year, at 1.8 per cent, 2 per cent, and 1.8 per cent respectively. The deal also calls for increased clothing provisions and allowances, two additional paid leave days during the life of the agreement, and greater full-time staff coverage at the Atlas Tube Centre.
