ElringKlinger workers overwhelmingly ratify new contract

A Windsor-Essex auto supplier has a new three-year contract in place.

According to its Facebook page, Unifor Local 444, which represents workers at ElringKlinger in Leamington, resoundingly ratified the contract following a virtual meeting on Sunday morning.

"I have always believed for a company to be successful, they must recognize the worth of their main asset, the workers. This contract begins to do just that," wrote Unifor Local 444 president Dave Cassidy in the post.

The vote was unanimously in favour of the deal among ElringKlinger employees in the trades classification, and 90 per cent of production workers voted yes.

The post did not give specifics, but the new contract includes pay raises, improvements in language and benefits, a performance bonus, and additional paid time off.

The membership had unanimously approved a strike mandate on March 22 if a new deal was not reached by midnight Friday. The agreement was reached late Friday afternoon.
