Tecumseh tennis, pickleball courts open this week

Even though Windsor-Essex remains in the Red Control level of the province's reopening framework, the Town of Tecumseh will open its tennis and pickleball courts on Wednesday.

Users will need to buy a seasonal membership that is good for them and one guest. Membership also comes with a key to courts at Optimist Park, McAuliffe Park, and Weston Park.

You can find court playtimes on the town's website.

"As we have seen over the last year, residents have made use of our outdoor trails and recreational facilities, and we are pleased to open the courts for the 2021 season," said Mayor Gary McNamara. "We remind the community that COVID-19 is still impacting our region. The use of all outdoor recreation facilities in town is at everyone's own risk, and public health guidelines continue to apply."

Under Red, outdoor facilities are allowed to open, but users are encouraged to wear a mask and remain at least two-metres apart. The town may close the courts at any tie, should the region's status change or if there are complaints about patrons not following public health guidelines. Outdoor play equipment will not be sanitized.

The Tecumseh Pickleball Courts are at Shawanoe Park and are open to members only. You can buy memberships through the Tecumseh Parks and Recreation Department, which can be reached at 1-519-735-4756, or by joining the Tecumseh Pickleball Association.
