New campaign aims to clear confusion over COVID-19 vaccines

In an effort to make sure Windsor-Essex residents have the latest information about COVID-19 vaccines, municipal governments and area hospitals are joining forces for a new campaign.

WEVax.ca will provide them with the latest information about the vaccines, who will get them, and when.

"WEVax.ca will provide a one-window approach for local residents to get all their up-to-date information about our region's vaccination plans and procedures," said Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens.

Now that more vaccines are coming into Canada, those procedures could change quickly.

The website will also provide links where people can book appointments to get their shot, speeding up the process and making it easier for residents to choose a time and location at one of the four clinics that is convenient.

Four clinics are currently operating across Windsor-Essex. The clinic at the WFCU Centre opened doors a few weeks ago, the one at the Sportsplex at St. Clair College a few months ago, and one opened at the University of Windsor's Windsor Hall on Ferry Street this week. In the county, there is a clinic at the Nature Fresh Farms Recreational Centre in Leamington and one is expected to open at the Libro Credit Union Centre in Amherstburg soon.

"Those who have additional questions about vaccine health and safety can also rely on this portal to provide clear, objective information to help everyone make an informed decision," added Dilkens.

The website is a partnership between the City of Windsor, County of Essex, Windsor Regional Hospital, Erie Shores Healthcare, and the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit.

The health unit has almost vaccinated all seniors 80 and older who pre-registered for their shot. It is currently vaccinating those who are 75 and up.

Thursday morning, public health officials reported 73,978 doses have been administered throughout the region.
