UPDATE: Train hits bike, blocks roadway in Lakeshore

Emergency crews responded to some train tracks in Lakeshore after a bicycle collided with a train.

Essex County OPP arrived at Elmstead Road between Little Baseline Road and County Road 42 around 4 p.m. Wednesday for a train blocking the roadway.

According to police, two youths were near an overpass when the train struck a bike. Luckily, the rider was able to move to safety right before the bicycle was hit. Paramedics arrived to take one of the youths to hospital to be treated for a minor injury.

Shortly after 9 p.m. police reported the area had been cleared.

OPP reminds the public that it is an offence under the Railway Safety Act to trespass on train tracks, though officials have not confirmed if any charges will be laid in relation to the incident.
