Construction of new Catholic Central High School to begin soon

The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board (WECDSB) announced a contractor has been selected to oversee construction for the new Catholic Central High School.

During a meeting Tuesday evening, board trustees passed a motion approving Oscar Construction Company Limited to build the school's replacement. With a bid of approximately $26.7 million, the company was the successful bidder of the five prequalified contractors to bid on the work.

"Oscar has a proven track record of quality construction projects for our board and we're confident that they will build a wonderful new school for our students, our staff and our Catholic Central community," said Terry Lyons, Director of Education in a release.

The construction company has built St. Christopher, Our Lady of Mount Carmel, and Holy Name for WECDSB in addition to St. Joseph’s and St. Anne Catholic high schools. Oscar will be working with +VG Architects, which was hired by the board last year. The company also has extensive experience designing innovative schools throughout Ontario.

The new school will be built on an 11-acre piece of property between Ouellette Avenue and McDougall Street, less than one kilometre south of its current location on Tecumseh Road East.

Construction is expected to begin as soon as possible, with a projected opening date for the start of the 2022-23 school year.
