Man with Windsor connection charged with sexual assault

Ontario Provincial Police believe a Brampton man accused of sexual assault may have had victims in Windsor-Essex.

The OPP in Simcoe County received a complaint last week from a person who went to a medical facility in Alliston, New Tecumseth, and was sexually assaulted during an examination.

Ankur Sharma, 35, was arrested and has been charged with sexual assault. He was released from police custody and will have a chance to respond to the charge in a Barrie court on April 8.

Sharma had previously worked in Windsor as a medical technologist. The OPP is encouraging anyone in the Windsor area who may have been a victim of a similar crime or with additional information, to come forward.

"The members of the Nottawasaga OPP Crime Unit work with victims to encourage reporting of serious crimes," said Detective Sergeant Sarah Vance. "Victim impact and understanding is a primary goal when investigating a crime against a person. Officers are committed to assisting victims during what is often the worst experience of their lives, providing support throughout criminal investigations and pending court proceedings. "

Tips may be phoned into the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
