Festival of Birds at Point Pelee National Park cancelled

Parks Canada has cancelled this year's Festival of Birds at Point Pelee National Park because of COVID-19 concerns.

The agency said the decision is "part of an ongoing effort to limit the spread of COVID-19 and protect the health and safety of Canadians, visitors, festival partners, and staff."

Instead, Parks Canada encourages bird enthusiasts to bird watch on their own or take part in virtual programming.

"Throughout the month of May, the national park will share general migration information and work with partners to deliver virtual presentations that encourage visitors to participate in birding activities from their homes," continued a release.

That information will be on the park's social media pages.

The park will be open, but Parks Canada warns visitors they should not expect the usual experience. Many visitor services have been scaled back. It recommends checking its website before leaving to find out what is available.
