Windsor man charged in hotel arson

Windsor police say a man has been charged for allegedly setting a fire in a west-end hotel room.

Police were called at around 2 a.m. Monday to the hotel on Huron Church Road near Malden Road. The fire had been put out once officers arrived on scene.

The investigation determined that the fire was set on purpose and the arson unit was brought in to investigate. Although fire damage was confined to a single room, there was water damage all over the property, according to Constable Talya Natyshak.

A man was identified as having set the fire in the room he was staying in, and was arrested at the scene.

The suspect's identity has not been released but he faces a charge of arson with disregard for human life. He was released on an undertaking with a future court date.
