Senior vaccinations now offered in Leamington

Leamington's clinic to vaccinate seniors over 80 opens Monday at the Nature Fresh Farms Recreation Centre.

Over the past week, the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit has been vaccinating seniors in that age group at the WFCU Centre in Windsor. Public health officials have said operations are running smoothly.

The two clinics will operate simultaneously.

Thousands of seniors have called and registered to receive their shot since registration opened on February 25. Public health nurses will call recipients back and arrange appointments. Walk-ups to the clinic will not be accepted.

"The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit continues to caution residents that this is not a 'first come, first served' system," read a release from the health unit on Friday. "Individuals will be randomly selected and then contacted to book their appointments."

CEO Theresa Marentette has said the system ensures fair and equitable access to the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine.

Those who have not yet registered can do so by going to the health unit's website or calling the hotline at 519-251-4072. Due to the high number of calls, it may take several times to get through.

The clinic at 249 Sherk Street will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday, depending on the health unit's supply of the vaccine.
