Windsor French public school records COVID-19 cases

The French-language public school board serving Windsor-Essex has reported its first local cases of COVID-19.

Conseil scolaire Viamonde has confirmed that two cases were found at Ecole L'Envolee in Windsor. The board did not disclose how many cohorts of students were dismissed as a result, or the number of students dismissed.

Board spokesperson Julie Vanghelder told Blackburn News that all the mandated procedures have been followed.

"As directed by the Windsor Essex County Health Unit, we have dismissed the individuals known to have been in close contact with the people who are ill during the infectious period," said Vanghelder. "Those identified as close contacts will be contacted directly by the public health unit and provided with further guidance. The individuals who are ill are at home isolating and will return to school when recovered. We cannot provide any additional detail for privacy reasons."

The building itself remains open. Students who have not been identified as close contacts may attend class Friday as usual.

With these cases, all four of the publicly-funded school boards serving the region have reported at least one active case of COVID-19. The WECHU, however, has only classified one outbreak, at the French Catholic board's Ecole Monseigneur Jean-Noel in Windsor.
