After two days of operation, the Windsor Essex County Health Unit is finding efficiencies as it continues the targeted vaccine clinic at the WFCU Centre in Windsor.

The health unit continues to book appointments for the 80+ population at random. Currently six people are vaccinated every 15 minutes, however that will be increased to nine on Thursday.

"Some of the people are very able to move through the system on their own, did not bring caregivers, while others need more time and attention. So, going with the pace of the person is very important to us," said CEO and Chief Nursing Officer Theresa Marentette.

The health unit is booking 150-160 appointments a day and will do the same number a day at the Nature Fresh Farms Centre in Leamington starting on Monday.

Once the vaccine supply is available, the health unit has a number of plans in place to increase the number of people who can be vaccinated in a single day.

"I anticipate that we will have a better flow of people going through as we open it up, and also, we will probably increase our nursing stations and the actual amount of people vaccinating," said Marentette.

It's expected at least two sites will operate in the City of Windsor and two sites will operate in the county when mass vaccinations begin in the spring.
