Porter Airlines to delay return to air until May

Travellers who use a regional airline will have to wait a little longer to book their flights on it.

Porter Airlines, which offers service from Windsor Airport to Toronto's Billy Bishop City Centre Airport, announced on its website Monday that due to ongoing travel restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, it is delaying a return to flying until May 19.

The carrier had been planning for a March 29 return to service.

"We want to see our planes in the sky as soon as possible and are actively working to prepare for our resumption of service," read the statement. "However, the ongoing uncertainty presented by government travel restrictions, including border closures, is impacting our ability to operate flights."

Despite the grounding of flights, Porter said it remains committed to providing a safe, stress-free environment once it gets the green light to resume service.

"We are closely watching developments and know that Porter will be an important part of providing people with travel options as the economy recovers," read the statement. "Porter is preparing to introduce enhanced health and safety measures for its return to service."

Also, for any flights booked before May 19, passengers will have all change and cancellation fees waived. This includes Porter Escapes vacation packages.
