The freezer will be able to store the Pfizer vaccine that, according to current guidelines, must be stored at –80 C and –60 C.

The health unit says having this additional freezer is critical for vaccine distribution.

“The support from Chapman’s Canada through the donation of this freezer will help us immensely in our efforts to vaccinate Windsor-Essex County residents against COVID-19 in the coming months. We are extremely grateful for this donation,” said CEO and Chief Nursing Officer Theresa Marentette.

It will be used somewhere in the county to improve accessibility for residents living there.

To date, 11,381 people have been fully vaccinated in Windsor-Essex.

The health unit intends to announce plans to vaccinate the 80+ population in Windsor-Essex this week.
