Crews battle two fires across Windsor-Essex

Fire crews across Windsor-Essex were kept busy overnight after two blazes broke out early Saturday morning.

Around 2:15 a.m., the OPP, Lakeshore Fire Department and Essex-Windsor EMS responded to a fire on Old Tecumseh Road in Lakeshore.

Two people were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries as a result.

The Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal has been called in and the cause of the fire is still under investigation. Anyone with information is encouraged to call OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

Around 3 a.m. in Windsor, crews responded to a structure fire on Laforet Street near Baby Street. According to Windsor Fire and Rescue, the tenant was alerted by a smoke alarm and was able to safely get out of the residence. The tenant was treated for minor smoke inhalation.

Firefighters were met with heavy fire conditions on arrival and fire exposure on the neighbouring property.

The fire was reported under control shortly around 4:30 a.m. The cause remains undetermined. Damage of the Laforet Street property is estimated at $150,000 while the neighbouring property on Baby Street also incurred $150,000 in damage.
