The Mental Health and Addictions Urgent Care Centre is moving.

Right now, it is located at the Canadian Mental Health Association Windsor-Essex Branch at 1400 Windsor Avenue. However, as of February 22, it will reopen at Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare’s Crisis and Mental Wellness Centre at 744 Ouellette Avenue.

The hours of service will change for those who have an appointment for urgent mental health or substance-related concern. It will be open Monday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. for patients who are referred by a healthcare professional. People can also self-refer by visiting during hours of operation or calling 519-257-5111 ext. 77968.

Crisis walk-in services will still be available seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The crisis line, 519-973-4435, is available at any time of the day.

“The MHAUCC’s home at 744 Ouellette Avenue makes it a one-stop-shop, no wrong door, single point of access for mental health and addictions care,” said Vice President of Mental Health and Addictions at Hotel Dieu Grace Healthcare, Doctor Sonja Grbevski.

The centre provides assessment and treatment to those over 16 who require urgent, non-emergency, mental and substance abuse care. Its team can also coordinate medical if needed.

Between April 2020 and January 2021, the centre has had almost 600 visits where 35 per cent said they would have gone to the Emergency Department had the service not been available.
