Windsor student scratches her way to $50,000

A Windsor woman will be able to pay for her education after winning on a scratch-off lottery ticket.

Not only did 22-year-old Kristen Dwyer win the grand prize of $50,000 playing the Instant Crossword game, it was her first time ever playing the lottery.

Dwyer said she and her boyfriend scanned the ticket through the OLG Lottery app just to confirm it was a big winner.

"We didn't believe it. We scanned it multiple times to verify it," said Dwyer, who then called her mother with the happy news.

The lucky ticket was part of an OLG Instant Gift Pack, which Dwyer received as a gift. The gift pack was purchased at the Zehrs store on Manning Road in Tecumseh.

Dwyer plans to use the winnings to pay for her education in social work.

"I feel very lucky, this win definitely came during a time of need," said Dwyer.
