No new COVID-19 deaths in Windsor-Essex, 77 new cases

Windsor-Essex health officials reported an additional 77 COVID-19 cases on Sunday.

It marks the third time this week that the health unit recorded a COVID-19 daily increase only in the double-digits.

The total case count overall now sits at 11,739. The active case count has dropped from 1,618 to 1,567 over the past 24 hours.

As of Sunday, 101 individuals remain hospitalized.

The transmission source of 48 the latest cases remain under investigation, 24 cases are outbreak-related, three are close contacts of confirmed cases and two are community-acquired.

There were no new fatalities reported on Sunday, with the death toll remaining at 290. The number of active outbreaks in the region also remained the same with 25 workplace outbreaks, 19 outbreaks in long-term care or retirement homes, six COVID-19 hospital outbreaks and two community outbreaks.

Elsewhere, provincial health officials reported 2,417 new cases across Ontario on Sunday, 2,759 recoveries and 50 deaths. Daily case counts in the province have now remained below 3,000 for a week straight.
