LaSalle's St. Clair Park will close this summer for major makeover

The Town of LaSalle is giving residents the heads up that it plans to close St. Clair Park this summer while it makes improvements.

The park, located between St. Clair Avenue and Betts Avenue, just off Normandy Street, will shut down in June, and is not expected to reopen again until September.

In the meantime, the town hopes to install a multi-use pathway, fenced-in basketball court that will be painted for ball hockey, new benches, bike racks, and plant trees.

"We plan to complete the tender for the playground equipment in March or April," said Manager of Roads and Parks Mark Beggs.

The new playground structure will include components like a swing, a slide, and a balance feature appropriate for children between the ages of 18-months and 12-years. It will also meet the requirements of the Accessibility for Ontarians Disability Act, and have an engineered wood fibre base.

The play equipment and basketball court may be usable in the fall, although it will take time for the grass around it to grow.

The project is anticipated to cost $150,000 and has been included in the 2021 budget.

LaSalle will use PlaceSpeak to notify residents as the project progresses, and take input from the public. Feedback will be accepted until February 24.

Residents will need to create a PlaceSpeak account to participate, but once the account is active, it can be used for updates on other public projects.

Feedback in writing can also be sent to Mark Beggs and Tom Brydon at 5950 Malden Road, LaSalle, Ontario, N9H 1S4.
