Windsor-Essex woman identified as victim in Niagara double homicide

A 20-year-old Windsor-Essex woman has been identified as one of two victims in a homicide in the Niagara Region.

Niagara Regional Police said Thursday afternoon that the victim from Windsor-Essex is Juliana Pannunzio. The identification was made public with the permission of her loved ones once they were notified.

The second victim was identified as 18-year-old Christine Crooks of Toronto.

According to Niagara police, the incident occurred Tuesday at a home on Niagara River Parkway in Fort Erie, just south of Niagara Falls. The day before, a group of people, some from out of town, had arrived at what was described as a short-term rental accommodation.

Shots were apparently fired and people in the house fled before police arrived. The officers discovered the two women dead in the house.

"Evidence at the scene suggests that there were multiple people at the house," read the police release. "Detectives are attempting to determine the identity of everyone who was present or in the house before and when the incident occurred."

Detectives are also asking the public for help in identifying the origin of a take-out order that was discovered in the house. Photos and a description of the order can be found in the media release. The order was placed either on Monday night or early Tuesday morning.

Anyone with information is urged to call Niagara Regional Police at 905-688-4111. Anonymous tips may be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
