Windsor-Essex sees 270 additional COVID-19 cases

Health officials in Windsor-Essex reported 270 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday.

The additional cases bring the overall regional case count to 11,022.

Twenty of the latest cases are outbreak-related, nine are close contacts of confirmed cases and three are community-acquired. The health unit is still investigating the transmission source of 238 of Sunday’s cases.

The number of people who have passed away in the region from the virus remains at 255 with no new deaths reported on Sunday.

Meanwhile, 127 more people recovered from the virus in the region over the past 24 hours. A total of 8,055 of the cases in Windsor-Essex are listed as being resolved and the number of active cases is at 2,172 as of Sunday.

There are currently 21 long-term care or retirement homes and 23 workplaces in COVID-19 outbreak. There are also three hospital outbreaks in the region and one community outbreak.

Elsewhere, provincial health officials reported 3,422 additional cases on Sunday and 69 new deaths. The case count in Ontario now sits at 237,786.
