Tecumseh Corn Fest cancelled for second year in a row

An annual end-of-summer tradition is facing cancellation again.

The Town of Tecumseh announced that the three-day corn festival, usually held in August, will be cancelled for 2021. Last year's festival was also cancelled due to uncertainty surrounding COVID-19.

Funding for the festival was cut from the town's budget, but Ward 1 councillor, Andrew Dowie says the decision was not purely budgetary. He says planning for the festival is usually well under way by now, but changing public health regulations halted any future plans.

"The uncertainty as to how to plan for this event and what conditions we will be in, the decision was made," said Dowie.

Dowie says organizers are looking forward to the return of Corn Fest in 2022.
