Windsor-Essex sees 228 additional COVID-19 cases

Health officials in Windsor-Essex reported 228 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday.

The additional cases bring the regional case count to 9,673.

Sixteen of the latest cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 13 are outbreak-related and three are community-acquired. The health unit is still investigating the transmission source of 196 of Sunday's cases.

There was also one new death reported on Sunday. A woman in her 80s who was a resident of a long-term care home is the latest person to pass away from the virus in the region. The death toll in Windsor-Essex is now at 210.

Meanwhile, 90 more people recovered from the virus in the region over the past 24 hours. A total of 6,822 of the cases in Windsor-Essex are listed as being resolved and the number of active cases is at 2,641 as of Sunday.

There are currently 21 long-term care or retirement homes and 18 workplaces in COVID-19 outbreak. There are also three community outbreaks and two hospital outbreaks in the region.

Elsewhere, provincial health officials reported 3,945 additional cases on Sunday and 61 new deaths. The case count in Ontario now sits at 215,782.
