Health officials in Windsor-Essex reported 199 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday and seven new deaths.
The additional cases bring the overall regional case count to 9,445. There are currently 2,504 active cases with 92 individuals in the hospital.
The transmission source of a majority of the newest cases is still being investigated. Thirty-two cases are outbreak-related, 20 are from close contact with a confirmed case and four are community-acquired.
Meanwhile, 178 more people recovered from the virus in the region over the past 24 hours. A total of 6,732 of the cases in Windsor-Essex are listed as being resolved.
There were also seven additional deaths reported on Saturday. Four of the latest deaths were from long-term care and retirement homes including two men and a woman in their 80s as well as a woman in her 90s. There were also three deaths from the community including a woman in her 70s and a man and woman in their 80s.
There are currently 21 long-term care or retirement homes and 15 workplace outbreaks in the region as well as three community outbreaks and two hospital outbreaks.
Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare announced on Saturday that an outbreak has been declared within its Crisis and Mental Wellness Centre.
Elsewhere, Ontario recorded 3,443 new COVID-19 cases, 2,915 recoveries and 40 additional deaths on Saturday. On Saturday, provincial health officials also marked the milestone of 100,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine administered.
