Another death, 135 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor-Essex

An additional COVID-19 related death is being reported in the Windsor-Essex region.

The death, along with 135 new cases of the virus, was reported on Sunday morning by the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit.

The latest person to pass away was a woman in her 80s from the community.

The total number of people who have died due to the virus in the region now sits at 116. Meanwhile, the total number of cases is now at 6,880. Of those cases, 1,580 are listed as being active and 79 are hospitalized. There were 57 recoveries over the past 24 hours.

According to the health unit, 24 of the latest cases are outbreak-related, one case is a household contact of a confirmed case and 110 cases are still being investigated.

There is now 18 long-term care or retirement home outbreaks, 14 workplace outbreaks, two school outbreaks, three community outbreaks and three hospital outbreak in Windsor-Essex.

Elsewhere, provincial health officials recorded a total of 2,005 new cases of the virus on Sunday, bringing the total number of cases in Ontario to 171,416.
