281 new COVID-19 cases over two days in Windsor-Essex

Health officials in Windsor-Essex reported 281 additional cases of COVID-19 on Saturday and one new death.

The latest case count is made up of figures from December 24 and 25. According to the Windsor Essex County Health Unit, 130 cases were reported on the 24th and 151 cases were reported on the 25th.

The case count in the region is now at a total of 6,745 with 1,503 cases currently active and 79 in the hospital. So far, 5,127 individuals have recovered from the virus in Windsor-Essex.

Sixty-four of Thursday and Friday's cases are outbreak-related, two are from close contact of a confirmed case, one is community-acquired while 214 are still being investigated.

The latest death reported was a woman in her 90s who was a resident of a long-term care home. The number of fatalities in Windsor-Essex related to COVID-19 is now at 115.

As of Saturday, 14 long-term care or retirement homes, 12 workplaces, three hospitals and three schools are in COVID-19 outbreak. Meanwhile, there are three community outbreaks.

Provincially, 2,142 new cases were reported in Ontario on Saturday and 2,159 were reported on Friday.
