Outbreak declared at St. Mary's French Immersion

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit has declared an outbreak at a local Catholic school.

The outbreak has been identified within a cohort at St. Mary's Catholic French Immersion. The health unit says there are three confirmed cases within a single classroom.

An outbreak is defined by the health unit as any instance where at least two people are infected within a school, and if there is evidence that at least one of the cases was directly connected to the school.

The entire class had previously been asked to self-isolate for 14 days. The outbreak is currently limited to just this one group.

As of Tuesday morning, the Windsor-Essex Catholic Dsitrict School Board reported seven confirmed cases affecting a total of seven buildings. One other outbreak was previously reported by the board, at L.A. Desmarais Catholic Elementary in Windsor.
