Province cancels road tests in Windsor-Essex

If you live in Windsor-Essex and have a driving test scheduled, you will need to cancel.

With the region currently under the "grey-lockdown" classification for COVID-19 response, the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) has cancelled all road tests at the Windsor DriveTest Centre until further notice. The same applies to the York Region and the Newmarket centre.

In addition, people from Windsor-Essex will not be allowed to schedule a test for DriveTest locations in other regions of Ontario, until the province takes Windsor-Essex off of the "grey" classification.

Transportation Minister Caroline Mulroney said she understands and regrets the inconvenience this may cause, but it's necessary in order to slow the spread of COVID-19.

"These are unprecedented times and our number one priority remains the protection of the health and safety of individuals, families and workers," said Mulroney in a media release.

Those with a test scheduled will get a cancellation without penalty, along with a credit to be used to reschedule their test once the region moves out of the "grey" mode.

DriveTest Centres across Ontario have been told not to honour bookings for tests scheduled by people currently living in a "grey" area.

The MTO said the Windsor centre will remain open for indoor services such as written tests, with the proper capacity guidelines and physical distancing in place.
